Biography

Known for his work and composition in “Redstains”, guitarist Alexandre Santos founded the Portuguese heavy rock band SCAR FOR LIFE in 2008. Creating songs from the most vitriolic, groovy assaults to soft acoustic pieces, and with a penchant for memorable hooks and vocal melodies, SCAR FOR LIFE embraced all of the influences that make it emotional and powerful.

The debut album, Scar For Life, was released in July 2008, recorded at Ultra SoundSystem studio facilities, with Daniel Cardoso as mixer and drummer (now in Anathema). The reception for the debut album was very positive, called passionate and ‘honest [with] a clear vision of their sound and identity‘ (Metal Invader) and filled with ‘ace musicianship, and infectious energy’ (Metal Imperium).

SCAR FOR LIFE opened for some Portuguese bands, headlined multiple shows and played several acoustic showcases in stores around the country. Live and Acoustic, an acoustic performance from one of these showcases, was available on iTunes and Amazon for a limited time.

Recorded in May 2010, It All Fades Away was the band’s second release and the media reaction surpassed the first album. Considered Album of the Year by Brazilian Collector’s Room webzine, one of the top ten Portuguese metal albums of the year by several webzines and ‘deserving of any praise they get because their music speaks for itself’ by My Global Mind.

Released in September 2012, the third album by SCAR FOR LIFE, 3 Minute Silence was by far the most ambitious work to date. Exploring a heavier and more melodic side of SCAR FOR LIFE, 3 Minute Silence features guests such as violinist Anne Vitorino d’Almeida, Finnish singer Kari Vahakuopus (Catamenia) and British keyboardist Ged Ryland (ex-Ten).

Five years into their career, in 2013 SCAR FOR LIFE released a compilation, Retrospective, for free download. With one new track featuring Neil Murray (Whitesnake) on bass, SCAR FOR LIFE promoted the compilation with live performances in London and Portugal.

The year 2014 was one of some major changes in the line-up. Singer Rob Mancini and Teen Asty (guitar, bass) joined the band to record the new album titled Worlds Entwined. The epic new work, mixed by Swedish producer Martin Kronlund, featured special guests such as Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath/Dio), Mikael Carlsson (Lover Under Cover) and Neil Fraser (Ten).

The album gained extremely good reviews and was voted top 10 album of the year by several magazines. In Spring 2015 the line up was completed with Tiago Ian on bass and Ricardo Reis on drums. In August 2015, SCAR FOR LIFE opened the Portuguese heavy metal festival Vagos Open Air, alongside such bands as Black Label Society, Destruction, Overkill and Within Temptation.

After an almost six years break, SCAR FOR LIFE is back with their 5th album Sociophobia. Joining the line-up for the new album to reinforce the band’s ambitions are Marc Lynn on bass, Tobbe Jonsson on drums and Darrel Treece-Birch on keyboards. A new deal was signed with Pride & Joy Music and the album will be released the 22nd July 2022.
